Whether it is your first time to enter counseling, or you’ve sought help before I intend to provide a confidential and comforting experience to help meet your individual needs. It is normal to be nervous whether this is your first time, or not. While some people hope to learn skills to deal with the struggles they are facing, others are in need of a listening ear or a trusted advocate to validate their thoughts and feelings. (You are not crazy, but life can make us feel like we are headed that direction sometimes) I enjoy working with people of all ages, yet most of my patients are adolescents through mature adulthood (16-50ish).
There are many reasons people enter counseling, but I believe therapy is beneficial for everyone. We all face struggles in our life at some point, and nobody is immune! (This includes me!) Many common challenges I see include grief and loss, relationship issues, family or parenting conflict, or other such major life changes and adjustments. We may feel the effects in our body as head aches, chronic pain, stomach problems, or other medical conditions, and manifest in our thoughts, affect, and behavior which may be more clinical in nature such as common with Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, Substance or Alcohol Use Disorders, etc.
Our field offers many opportunities for educational growth and experience, so I am diligent about obtaining additional training to help meet each individuals needs. Recently, I have forged into training specific to a couples counseling model and approach called EFT, or Emotion Focused Therapy. I am excited to continue growing as a therapist to offer the best, research backed approach and fully intend to complete certification in EFT. Other relevant trainings I have completed include Anger Management Certification and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT).
